Euro 2012 Fantasy : How it works

Im sure by now you all must have registered your teams in the McDonald's Fantasy Football. In case you haven't here is the link http://en.euro2012fantasy.uefa.com/

With less than 10 days to go before the games kick off on the 8th of June, its time to get all the facts right before we get to team selection and player picks.

Lets get straight to our point by point analysis of the rules of the fantasy game :

1. Team Selection :

You are to select a 15 player squad with a budget of 100 mill Euros which shall include 2 Goal keepers, 5 defenders, 5 midfielders and 3 forwards.

Maximum players from each team : 2 ( Group stages ) , 4 ( Quarter finals ), 6 ( Semi finals ) , 12 ( Finals )

Budget                                         : 100 mill ( Group stages ) , additional 5 million ( post the group stages)

2. Team Formation

You can also make play a 2-5-3 formation with 2 defenders in case you want a more attacking formation.

However , there are other formations also to choose from like the 4-4-2 or 4-3-3  or 3-5-2 depending on the strength of your team.

3. Scoring

The scoring in similar to the official fpl game and those of you who are used to the Yahoo format unfortunately wont be scoring from shots on targets, crosses won etc.(Yeah i know that's more interesting)

ActionPoints
For playing in a game1
For playing at least 60 minutes in a game (includes playing points mentioned above)2
For each goal scored by your goalkeeper or defenders6
For each goal scored by your midfielders5
For each goal scored by your forwards4
For each goal assist *3
For your goalkeeper conceding 0 goals (must also play at least 60 minutes)4
For your defenders conceding 0 goals (must also play at least 60 minutes)4
For your midfielders conceding 0 goals (must also play at least 60 minutes)1
For earning a penalty after the referee adjudges that the player had been fouled1
For conceding a penalty after the referee adjudges that an infringement takes place in the penalty area that results in a kick from the penalty spot-1
For every penalty miss-2
For every penalty save5
For every 2 goals conceded by your goalkeeper or defenders-1
For every yellow card-1
For every red card (includes any yellow card points)-3
For every 3 saves1
For every 5 recovered balls (the total of clearances completed and gaining possession tackles)1

Assists

An assist is awarded when the goalscorer receives the ball directly from a team-mate (including the goalkeeper) and scores without having to take the ball past an opponent. If the pass takes a small deflection which does not change the direction of the ball, it will still be given. No assists are awarded for own goals or penalties. Live assists are provisional and will be reviewed within 24 hours of the match

4. Substitutions

This part is important to get right.

Firstly, you need to select a squad of 15 players before the transfer deadline of each "Matchday" ( which includes 16 games) For eg Matchday 1 starts from 8th June and ends on 11th June.

Once you have selected your team for a matchday and you have your 11 players and 4 bench players ready,
you can take control of your team through out the matchday.

You can :

- use your bench players and switch them with someone who hasn't performed too well in your first 11.
- Its important to note that the player you are substituting out must not be red carded.
- Also, incase your some player doesn't play due to any reason, you can choose who to substitute him with out of the bench players.
- In case you do not do it yourself, the computer will automatically replace any player who hasn't played with your bench player at the end of the particular matchday.

For eg. Lets say Lewandowski plays on 8th June and say for eg your bench player Jelavic plays on 10th June. If Lewandowski doesn't do well and say he earns you 1 or 2 pts, you can replace him with Jelavic hoping the latter outscores in terms of points.

However, the players who you substitute out will score 0 pts

5. Captain

You captain scores double points as we have seen the official fpl game. However there is no vice captain here.So if your captain doesnt play or scores 0 , the computer will not change your captain automatically.

However, you could change your captain manually. The same rule for substitution applies for your captain as well. In case your captain hasn't performed well enough as per you, then you can change your captain to a player who hasn't played yet in that matchday.

You could have a captain on 8th , if you are not happy with his result, you could switch him to some player who plays on 9th or 10th or 11th, But you can not pick a captain who has already played and also you cannot replace your captain in case he has been sent off or red carded.

6. Transfers

You can make unlimited transfers before the 1st Matchday begins, however after that you will be allowed only 1 free transfer in each group stage matchday.Any addition transfer will deduct 3 pts from your total pts.

Before the quarterfinal stage, you will be allowed to make unlimited transfers, 8 free transfers before Semifinals and 4 free transfers for the finals.

Also, in case you sell a player whose value has appreciated, you will be given 50% of the profits.
For eg in case you bought Van Persie at 11 and you sell him at 11.2. After selling him your bank will have 11.1 instead of 11.0

7. Wild card

You can play 1 wild card during the tournament where you can make unlimited transfers without any pts deduction.

8. Deadline

The deadline for Matchday 1 is till 17.45 CET on 8th of June.

  3. Any Thoughts that could help improve my team?

    Given / Isaakson
Lescott – Dunne – Strinić (Piszczek – Gebre Selassie)
Sneijder – Shirokov – Young – Özil (Petržela – the squad filler)
    Lewandowski [captain] – T. Müller – Robben

2.5 Euros In the bank. So Definitely could do a upgrade or two here. Planning to do the wildcard on the 2nd or 3rd match-day, depending on match-day 1′s results
