The Matchday Insight: Week 34

The semi finals of the FA Cup take place this weekend where Liverpool play Everton and Chelsea are against Tottenham.
This has left us with only 6 league games this weekend.
Its an ideal situation for the ones who don't hold many players on discounts but
Incase you do hold 'in-form' players like Cisse,Dempsey,Ben Arfa etc its time to make some tough decisions.
I would suggest you to keep only those discounted player ( who don't play this week) who you have at minimum half their price. For e.g incase you have Cisse at lesser than 13, you could hold on to him and hope he returns the points in the double game week in Week 36.
Similiarly Ben Arfa could be held on to incase you have him at less than 7.
Marginal discounts should be ignored this week all 6 fixtures look tempting.

Let's have a look at all the fixtures :
Sunderland vs Wolves
West Brom vs QPR
Norwich vs Man City
Man Utd vs Aston Villa
Arsenal vs Wigan
Swansea vs Blackburn

Best Picks:
Forwards :
Rooney/Rvp/Aguero : Its now the front men who need to be invested in as this being the business end of the season. No rotation risk what so ever and personal milestones of each of them will make them give it all in these last 5 games.
( Prefer Rvp >Aguero > Rooney )
Odemwingie : His price is ideal and matchup is tempting to get him in.I would expect him to put in a strong performance at home against Paul Robinson.
Sincliar : Prefer him to Graham as he is more active in offense. This game is setup for a good show by Swansea who have played some great football this year.QPR concede goals and their defense has been poor.
Tevez : I would expect Tevez and Dzeko to share playing time whereas Aguero to enjoy majority of time. No doubt that Tevez is a tempting option to have in your forward lineup but I would consider it only at a cheap price (less than 7) as he won't be playing the entire game.

Enabler :
Rest options could include Yakubu > Welbeck

Midfielders :
Sessegnon : Has to be the pick of the midfielders this week as the matchup is great,no rotation risk and playing a more forward role. Its Wolves and that is an 'all in' time to get to Sunderland players who will be eager to get the job done after the poor game against Everton.
Sigurdsson : Pick of the Swansea midfielders and I expect all of you to already have him in your teams.
Nani : The man is back for the run in and he will be playing all of the remaining games for United even if they win the league way before.Valencia has done all the hard work uptill now and will be given lesser time as the job is completed.I would expect Young and Valencia to share the playing time.
Walcott : Pick of Arsenal midfielders but incase he is too expensive for you budget Rosicky is the pick.He seems to be playing more forward, just behind Rvp.
Andrews : With Brunt being an injury doubt,Andrews will be a good option,He is cheap at below 6.

Enabler : Ox, Ramsey.
Other options include : Larsson > Valencia > Young > Arteta

Defenders :
Evans : Pick of the Manchester United defenders and its been rewarding for the last few weeks now.
Vermaelen : Been very inconsistent this season but you just can't ignore him against Wigan at home.
Djourou / Santos : Both cheap options and should start.
Williams/Taylor : The bad run needs to stop and Swansea need their back 4 to do what they have done best this season at home, keep a clean sheet.

Enabler: Lichaj, Baker

Goalkeeper :
Vorm : Swansea play bottom 3 sides in 3 of their next 5 games. Its a great run to have Vorm as his price is affordable.
Mignolet : Even though Sunderland struggled against Everton,Its their home form which is more solid and with Wolves playing,I do expect him to be a safe pick.
Scznezsy : Good matchup and will need to make some saves against a fighting Wigan side.Could turn out to be productive.
I won't suggest a cheap keeper as they seem to struggle to give anything positive.

Good Luck.

  1. Hi Rohit & AM,
How're you guys doing so far?
    What's your take on:
Mignolet - Bridge, Djourou, Santos - The Ox, Benayoun, Carrick, Beausejour - RvP, Rooney & Tevez ??
Thanks in advance for your help...

    1. Keeper and defence is good apart from santos rotation risk. I see ur going for the big big guns forward which might be why u have an ok midfield. But u have the right fire power upfront to balance it out.

    2. Thanks!
Do you think Wayne Bridge is due for a start? He has been overlooked for a while now by MON...
And how long is Gibbs out for? I feel The Ox is also due for a start; hoping my hunch pays off. I need a big positive week having lost my big discounts on HBA & P.Cisse...
Cheers & good luck with your team as well.

    3. Bridge is due....my reasoning given in one of the replies below. Gibbs was out till 10th april and Arsenal have a monday kickoff giving a bit of extra recovery time so he could be back. I gambled with ox this past week and it didn't pay off...good thing is he's cheap so doesn't hurt so much. Im still holding on to those 2 discounts even though i can seem to justify holding on to them. For me its RVP,HBA,Cisse and dejong, Kyrigaikos or Silva,Sess,Tevez,Sinclair, Bridge so quite in the dilemma. l

  2. Odem against Robinson? And swan vs qpr?

    My unsaved team atm:
    Kenny
    Evans djourou 3.1
    Siggy valencia sess Andrews
    Rvp aguero tevez

Kenny sess Andrews and tevez at retail price.

Holding pikington rosicky and ivanovic behind the scene (with some/little discount) plus mignolet at retail.
I hope I can use bridge or Tate or kyrgiakos as the filler if anyone of them starting but I doubt they would. I know we can't trust Kenny but he has return positive pts lately.

    1. Bridge was an unused sub against Everton so no reason for him not to feature. Especially with the 4-0 drubbing. Out of the 3 Rosicky is the only one worth holding. Ivanovic doesn't play and might be facing a ban anyway and Pilkington has a toughy against Man City.
Kenny is a risk as West brom could score at home. Rest is good. Great forwards.

  3. Made the biggest mistake last week by taking Aguero out.

    Vorm
    Djourou Andre Santos Taylor
    Siggy Sess Ox Nani
    Tevez Aguero Odemwingie

    with 0.46.

    2. I found a way to work rooney in, don't know if it's smart though.

      Robbo
      Djourou Kyrgiakos Bridge
      Siggy Sess Ox Nani
      Tevez Rooney Holt

    3. Ur first team felt much better

    4. Final team, i think.

      Vorm
      Djourou Santos Williams
      Siggy Sess Nani Buzsaky
      Tevez Aguero Gervinho

if Santos is tipped not to start i'll change him to Kilgallon.
The big question, is the first team better than this?

  4. Currently on:

    Mignolet

    Lichaj, Evans, Djourou, Shorey

    Siggy, Mcclean, Sessegnon, Andrews

    Tevez, RVP

Firstly I'm not so sure about the 4-4-2 (the last time i went with this turned out to be a disaster).

Mcclean will most probably stay but doubts on having both Mcclean and Sess on the same team.

Is Shorey starting? Should I stick with this team or should I mess around (more) with sess, andrews and shorey? Thanks for your thoughts in advance AM.

    1. Shorey starts all wba matches.
The 442 is not the most idealistic strategy for fantasy purposes. So try and shift to a 352 if 343 isnt possible. Get some of the arsenal middies as they are cheap. Ramsey below 7 or a risk with ox is still better than having 4 defenders.

  5. You have two of the fixtures wrong. It should be Swansea vs Blackburn and West Brom vs QPR. It may affect some of your analysis.

  6. Hi there Rohit. My team as below:

    PRobbo

    Lichaj, Evans, Djourou, Bridge

    Sigurdsson, Sessegnon, McEachran(filler)

    RVP, Tevez, Rooney

still holding aguero, kenny and valencia at discounts. Worth going for it?

    ReplyDelete
  7. Don't let go of aguero. U have 4 fillers in ur team...a keeper,2 defenders and a middy. That's a little too much. I think u need some balance.

  8. Hi All,

Been away for work and therefore not much of comments from me this week.
Hope you all are doing great.

Must mention that Rohit is 8 pts ahead of me in overall points and its been a great season for the both of us in terms of the response of the blog, our performance this year and the ever increasing passion for this game.( Thankyou all for your support)

All fixtures look tempting this week and its a tough situation of where to park your investments as options are many ( and expensive ) and funds are limited.

Im stuck between some important choices

    1. Sessegnon or Valencia

    2. Will Nani make a surprise start ( Alex does that after benching a player who has returned from injury ) but i do feel its a tough situation to start someone who hasnt played for a long time.

    3. Santos or Gibbs ( awaiting team news on Friday )

    4. Rvp or Rooney or Aguero or (two of them)

    5. Tevez ( i got him at less than 5 , so no brainer )

    6. Ox ( Wenger are you listening ?? )

    7. Mignolet or Vorm

    Currently on :

    Vorm

    Evans Djourou Tate

    Sigurdsson Sessegnon Ox Andrews

    Aguero Rvp Tevez

Thinking of many changes so it would end up a lot different at the end.

Will try to be on as and when i can.

    Have a great weekend.
    Cheers

      Szczesny

      Djourou Baker Bridge

      Sigurdsson Sessegnon Buzsaky Andrews

      RVP Aguero Tevez

My defender is sucks, there's no cheap defender at the moment lol...

  9. Hi AM,

I read 2 news which might affect our team selection:

    1. Roy Hodgson is hoping that West Brom duo Chris Brunt and Liam Ridgewell will be fit for the visit of QPR on Saturday.
Q: Will this affecting K.Andrews starting position?

    2. Sunderland might hand C.Gordon some playing time in these last few matches to prove his worthiness for a new contract.
Q: Who will be in between the sticks this weekend? Mignolet or Gordon?

I'm currently having these 2 players in my team.

    1. Yes i read some rumour about Gordon getting some games.I will keep a track of that story and inform you.

But with Sunderland losing 4-0 to Everton, its unlikely for O Neill to make such drastic change.

Andrews is a risk for sure and i wont be sticking with him if WBA press conference confirms the duos fitness.

    2. Yes, please keep us informed of any news/updates. Can't afford any zeros at this time of the season.

  10. Hi guys, some questions...is Valencia due a rest this week? My logic would be why would SAF rest his key man in a must win match with only 5 pts ahead of the pack?(only 5 pts might be an understatement)Would you recommend having both Mcclean and Sessegnon on the same team? Other than that, here's my current team:

    Robinson
    Lichaj,Evans,Djourou
    Siggy,Sessegnon,Valencia,Dorrans
    Tevez,RVP,Aguero

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Valencia will start as Nani has not played a competitive game for a long time.

However, Alex will be tempted to give Nani 'some' playing time as he wants him to play a vital role in the run in specially in the game against City.So rotation wise i hope it would be Young who will have to sacrifice.

Your team looks good and in case you need to get Mclean in who would you replace?

      Delete
  11. how about yossi bennayoun?

    No 1 think about him?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hes been consistent with his starting spot for 2 matches and wenger likes him on the left midfield. He should start again. The arsenal midfield has options. Song>Arteta>Walcott>Rosicky>Ramsey>Benayoun>Ox. So 7 players for 5 positions and Gervinho is injured otherwise he would also be a part of this. Song, Arteta and walcott seem to be starting more consistentently then the rest.

  12. Cuellar, Clark, Ridgewell, Brunt all fit for tomorrow games, means Baker, Lichaj, Shorey, Andrews's holders in risk. Just wonder any good defender options that below 4?

  13. am i the only one going for west brom strikers? lol.

    vorm
    kyriagos baker santos
    siggy valencia ox sessegnon andrews
    rvp fortune

comments? fantasy scout has baker on the bench and andrews in the startin eleven. what do you think fellow managers?
